BANK OF CANADA

When the Bank of Canada decided to renovate their main offices on Sparks Street, they chose to go with a bold design that would allow for a highly energy efficient space while maximizing occupant comfort.

Their system required that the ceiling coffers be converted to chilled radiant panels, allowing the sensible energy to be absorbed in that manner. Given these panels would cover the entire ceiling, light fixtures, sprinkler heads, supply air diffusers, fire alarm lights and speakers would all need to be integrated into a panel that still allowed for access to the piping and duct work above it, all while satisfying the architectural requirements for appearance.

TWA Panel Systems was able to provide a fully integrated and custom panel that met all these requirements, and reduced the expected installation time by almost one third.  TWA specializes in radiant heating and cooling and chilled beams, and is infinitely customizable to suit the requirements of the job. From custom colours and shapes, to integrating electrical and mechanical components into the panels, no project is too complex for TWA to ensure a top-quality project.

CANADIAN ROYAL MILK

Canadian Royal Milk.JPG

Canadian Royal Milk was the first new manufacturing facility in the St. Lawrence Valley in some time. When building the plant, they needed to ensure they had top-quality, long lasting, energy efficient rooftop air handling units that could stand up to the rigour of a processing plant.

AAON rooftops were a natural fit for this application, with a wide variety of options, including modulating cooling, modulating heating, humidity control and many control options to integrate into the facility BAS. AAON remains a great fit for projects from small commercial to large industrial applications.

LOCAL HOSPITAL

IMG_6857.JPG

Total HVAC Inc received a call from a local contractor in January 2020.

Four out of the five existing boilers at a local hospital had improper venting provided by another supplier and installed by a previous contractor, with products of combustion leaking into the building structure.

All four boilers (14” Ø Venting) were red tagged, and TSSA provided the hospital one month to rectify the situation.  After receiving a call on Friday morning, Total HVAC went to site immediately to evaluate the situation.

Working with the mechanical contractor, we were able to come up with a game plan to rectify the issues on site. With the help of DuraVent we were able to provide Layout Drawings, Sizing Calculations and Bill of Material to our client the same day.

Due to the tight timelines, DuraVent was able to modify their production schedule to produce and ship the venting to site the following week, a reduction from their standard 3-week lead time.  This gave the mechanical contractor 3 weeks to install all the new venting for all boilers.

The contractor was able to complete the install and get the boilers back up and running ahead of the 1-month deadline to satisfy their client and TSSA.

GIANT TIGER WAREHOUSE

The Giant Tiger warehouse, located in Johnstown, ON is a massive 640,000 square foot state-of-the-art automated distribution center. This award-winning facility was built to achieve a standard well above typical warehouse facilities.

This fully automated, fully air conditioned warehouse is built to have an energy cost well below similar sized warehouses by using more energy efficient equipment, with cleaner air and precise temperature control to ensure longer lasting performance of their multi-million dollar distribution system.

To accomplish this, the facility used high efficiency modulating AAON rooftop units, featuring energy recovery to lower the building cooling/heating loads, fully modulating temperature control, and variable frequency drives on all motors to greatly lower energy usage and maximize equipment life and comfort.

Additionally, 2-stage, high efficiency filtration was used to extend equipment life and lower cleaning costs. The office areas are served by fully variable air volume and modulating cooling & heating rooftop units with energy recovery to fully maximize the comfort of the occupants while minimizing energy usage.

Total HVAC and AAON are proud of their contribution, which helped enable this world class building’s designer to win the 2019 Regional Technology Award from the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
